Free movies at Bellevue's Downtown Park
Posted by Katherine Long
Remember how much fun it was to go to a drive-in movie theater when you were a kid? (Well, maybe we're older than you are. Trust us, it's fun.)
Bellevue is going to be capturing some of that spirit this summer with its first-ever showing of outdoor summer movies in Bellevue's Downtown Park.
The movies are all family-friendly, and they start July 7 at dusk (around 9 p.m.) with "Hotel for Dogs," which will be shown on an inflatable, 25' x 14' movie screen that makes viewing comfortable for people sitting on 1,000 blankets or 2,000 chairs.
The movies, sponsored by Intelius, are free, but the point is to raise money for a variety of human service agencies on the Eastside. If you come to the July 7 showing, you should bring food items to donate to Hopelink. (Check the summer movie link as the day draws closer to find out exactly what types of items they're looking for.)
How about making it a picnic? Overlake Service League, the nonprofit that will benefit from one of the movie nights, has teamed up with Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill to put together a special movie-goers menu available for anyone wanting to grab a to-go order and take it with them to the park. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Overlake Service League.
