Ron Judd will count this as his fourth Olympics after Salt Lake (2002), Sydney (2000) and Nagano (1998). A Washington native who has authored several outdoor guide books, Judd is a staff columnist on the outdoors and Olympics and has been with the newspaper since 1988.

Blaine Newnham, associate editor and staff columnist, covered the tumultuous Olympics in Mexico City (1968) for the Oakland Tribune, and went to Munich (1972) for the Eugene Register-Guard. After joining The Times in 1982, he covered the Olympics in Los Angeles (1984) and in Seoul (1988).

Dean Rutz, our lead photographer, is at his fifth Olympics. He was in Salt Lake, Sydney, Nagano, and Barcelona (1992). He also was the newspaper's chief picture editor for four Olympics and is a 16-year veteran of the newspaper.

Sports reporter Jayda Evans will watch from Seattle to provide daily comment on television coverage of the Athens Games. During her six years with the newspaper, Evans covered the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake.

Sports Editor Cathy Henkel, who covered the Los Angeles Olympics when a reporter, has been the editor for eight summer and winter Olympic Games since coming to The Seattle Times in 1987.
