ArtsPage
The Seattle area is home to a vibrant arts scene — there's always something going on in theaters, concert halls, galleries, museums. How to keep up? ArtsPage will showcase work by some of The Seattle Times' expert fine-arts writers, to help you navigate local art offerings. We'll include news, observations, images, humor, links and ways for you to join the conversation, too.
Weekend fun for geeks
This edition of our regular weekend entertainment preview is tailored for fans of comics, sci-fi and steampunk. You know who you are.
First on the list of recommended events is Art Attack, Georgetown's monthly art walk, which includes a requisite stop at Geekiness HQ, aka Fantagraphics Bookstore and Gallery. On view is "Funny Valentines," which features work by Peter Bagge, Art Chantry, Jack Davis, Ellen Forney, Roberta Gregory, Charles Krafft and John Ohannesian (whose "Queen of Hearts" is pictured). I poke fun, of course, but these artists are heavy, heavy hitters in the field of comics, art and graphic novels. Art Attack runs from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and you can find details here.

Next: This weekend's Geek-o-meter reaches its zenith with the release of "Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace" in 3D. Critics, in general, are not impressed. But does it matter? Hordes of "Star Wars" fans will march into theaters tonight like armies of clones, regardless.
And finally, for species Geekus Literati, we have a "steampunk comedy" at Annex Theatre. "Cocktails at the Centre of the Earth" is billed as "a symphony of secrets, sonnets, and sloe gin" -- and you know its steampunk pretensions are serious by the way "Centre" is spelled in the title. Goggles, earflap hats and other steampunk attire encouraged.

Finally, for book-lovers, film fans and bike-riders -- all Geeks in their own way, right? -- here's a video preview of three more Seattle-centric events:
