"Smallville" appreciation society

To Julia Waterhous: First and foremost, I must say I loved your article and your views on both the movie and the show ("Why 'Smallville's' Clark Kent is way cooler than 'Superman,' " July 19, Northwest Life). Many of the issues you brought up are the very thoughts that crossed my mind when watching the movie on opening weekend.

I've been attempting to convince a lot of my other friends that the Clark Kent is none other than Tom Welling's portrayal in "Smallville." We have been having hypothetical debates about whether the Batman portrayed by Christian Bale in "Batman Begins" would rival Tom Welling/Superman and Brandon Routh/Superman. The hefty majority agree that Bale's personality gives Batman an edge over Routh's Superman. However, versus Welling's Superman ... the fight would be quite even.

Ha, ha, and thanks for the story.
