Saturday, October 30, 2004 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Sub Pop signs Sleater-Kinney
Sub Pop Records, the little Seattle company famous for launching Nirvana, has made one of its biggest signings: Sleater-Kinney, the influential and revered all-female rock band. Megan Jasper, general manager of Sub Pop, confirmed the signing. "Working with those guys is going to rule." An announcement on S-K's Web site, www.sleater-kinney.com, said: "Sleater-Kinney have signed to Sub Pop Records. We are very excited about our new label and are looking forward to working with all of the wonderful people there." S-K leaves Olympia's Kill Rock Stars label, which had released the band's last four albums. Sleater-Kinney began 10 years ago in Olympia. Corin Tucker and Redmond native Carrie Brownstein had met in Bellingham two years earlier. The band members have since migrated to Portland. The trio singer-guitarist Tucker, guitarist Brownstein and drummer Janet L. Weiss is to begin recording their next album next week. Tom Scanlon, Seattle Times staff reporter
