Price shopping and online booking
Airlines sites
The cheapest fares are often available directly from the airlines on their Web sites and you can often earn extra frequent flyer miles.
All-purpose travel sites
Book flights, hotels and cars in one spot, for a $5-$7 fee. Prices are sometimes, but not always, lower than what's available directly from the airline, hotel or rental agency.
Travel aggregators
Aggregators compile results from selected booking or airline sites, then you book directly with those sites.
Discount air fare sites
Consolidators buy blocks of tickets at a discount and resell them. Priceline and Hotwire also let you name or pick your own price.
