Sharing the streets: 9 tips for safe walking
The end of daylight saving time marks the beginning of the most dangerous time of year for pedestrians. About one-third of all pedestrian fatalities happen the last two months of the year, when fog, rain and murky winter light play havoc with a driver's ability to see, according to a state transportation study. In general, when you're on foot and crossing a street, try to make eye contact with the motorist. And drivers, slow down and stop an extra 20 or 30 feet when you see a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
