What went wrong?
With little scrutiny from state geologists, Weyerhaeuser has been allowed to clear-cut unstable slopes. When December's storms hit, many of these heavily logged mountains gave way to hundreds of landslides. Landslides and logging
With little scrutiny from state geologists, Weyerhaeuser has been allowed to clear-cut unstable slopes. When December's storms hit, many of these heavily logged mountains gave way to hundreds of landslides.

Slides putting our highways in danger
Transportation Department geologists are so concerned about the impact of clear-cutting near highways that they're monitoring logging plans themselves. But the Department of Natural Resources says it's not shirking its responsibility for oversight.
