Racial changes in the Central Area More African Americans living in South King County In addition to the Central Area, parts of Rainier Valley also saw significant declines in the black population. South King County, on the other hand, had an influx of African Americans with neighborhoods in Tukwila, Renton, Kent and Federal Way gaining the most. The map shows the changes in the black population by census tract from 1990 to 2000.
Note: The 2000 numbers for African Americans include multiracial blacks. Source: Seattle Times analysis of census data by Justin Mayo, database specialist.
