Saying no to Guantánamo
Attorney Paul Richmond speaks at Friday's demonstration in downtown Seattle's Westlake Park, where protesters demanded closure of the military prison and detention camp at Guantánamo Bay and an end to what they call prisoner torture. Franci Ries, of Seattle, crouches in a costume made of burlap cloak, hood and electrodes. Similar demonstrations happened in cities across the U.S. and Europe, according to a news release by the organization World Can't Wait. The group chose Jan. 11 for the demonstrations because it's the day the U.S. opened the prison camp at Guantánamo Bay, according to the group.
